Bringing specialized veterinary surgery to
your hospital

Palmetto Veterinary Specialist, LLC (PVS) is a referral-only, mobile, specialty surgical practice for your patients.

A Note from Dr. Morrison

My aim is to fill the gap between your primary veterinarian and multi-specialty veterinary referral hospitals. Your veterinarian and I will work together to establish a diagnosis and develop a surgical plan for each patient. By keeping the relationship between your primary care veterinarian and myself open, we are able to provide outstanding continuity of care. Advanced surgical procedures are performed in the hospital of your veterinarian, where your pet is comfortable, eliminating the need to travel to another facility. I am committed to providing the highest quality care to your pet and service to referring veterinarians. If your pet needs surgery, have your vet contact me today.

What Is a Specialist?

A specialist is a veterinarian that has pursued additional training beyond veterinary school. To be called a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or a board-certified veterinary surgeon, a veterinarian has undergone at least a one-year rotating internship and three years of residency training following veterinary school. The American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) requires applicants to undergo specific training, caseload requirements and perform research that is published in a scientific journal. In addition, members must pass a rigorous, three-part examination. Veterinary surgeons are dedicated to providing the best in surgical care. With their advanced training, these surgeons offer expertise that ensures the best possible surgical outcome.

What Is TPLO?

TPLO stands for tibial-plateau-leveling osteotomy, and it’s is a surgery performed on dogs if they’re suffering from a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament. A cut (osteotomy) is performed in the proximal portion of the tibia to isolate the tibial plateau. The plateau is rotated (leveled off). A plate is placed to hold the bone in the new position while it heals over the next 10 weeks.
